News for the Meetings Industry Marshall
Murdaugh has developed successful, award-winning tourism and convention
programs for some of America’s top destinations as both a CEO and consultant. The
former Chairman of the Association of Travel Marketing Executives, Murdaugh received
the Atlas Award for Career Achievement from
the Association, served as a consultant to the U.S. Travel and Tourism Administration
and was the first recipient of the U.S. Department of
Commerce’s Special Citation for assistance in developing the “Visit
USA program.” Murdaugh
received national recognition for his innovative destination management programs
as President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York
City (88-94), Atlantic City (94-00)
and Memphis Convention and Visitor Bureaus
(83-88). As Commissioner of Virginia State Tourism
under four Governors (71-83), he developed the award-winning “Virginia
is for lovers” marketing campaign. His
consulting work includes domestic and international assignments and numerous seminar
presentations on tourism marketing for such organizations as the Australian Association
of Convention and Visitor Bureaus, the International Assn. of CVBs, the Travel
Industry Association of America and the Society of Incentive Travel Executives.
His national
and international affiliations are numerous, including past member of the Board
of the New York Society of Association Executives, the Travel Industry Association
of America and the International Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus.
He has been a member of the Society of American Travel Writers since the early
l970’s. A frequent
guest lecturer at New York University, George Washington University and New York’s
New School, Murdaugh was a member of the adjunct faculty at Virginia Commonwealth
University where he taught Commercial Recreation and Tourism for seven years.
Three years ago,
he created America’s “Travel Media Showcase”,
the trade show linking the travel writer fraternity with destination travel executives.
Marshall
Murdaugh Marketing was formed two years ago to provide a wide range
of strategic planning services for the tourism industry. They include market plan
development, facilitation and visioning, program audits, destination branding
