"Marshall Murdaugh is the Dean of Destination Marketing."
…John Boatright, Chairman Emeritus, Association of Travel Marketing Executives

Marshall Murdaugh has been helping travel destinations become more successful for over thirty-five years—first as the President and CEO for some of America's best recognized destination marketing programs, including Virginia State Tourism (1970-83) the Memphis CVB (1984-87) the New York City CVB (88-94), Atlantic City (94-00) —and for the past eleven years as marketing and strategic planning consultant to more than eighty city, state and regional destinations, tourism related businesses, corporations and travel organizations.

He has personally developed dozens of multi-million dollar program initiatives including destination advertising, meetings/convention sales, internet development, PR and media publicity and other performance based tourism marketing programs for tourism destinations. And his ground-breaking brand development work for “Virginia is for Lovers,”  “New York, the Big Apple” and other memorable marketing campaigns have consistently brought multi-billion dollar business results to dozens of communities throughout the industry.

His client list has included such diverse destinations as Acapulco, Miami, Newport Beach, Palm Springs, Pittsburgh, Puerto Rico, Niagara Falls, the Black Hills and Badlands of South Dakota, the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Hilton Head Island, Myrtle Beach, Savannah, Steuben County's Finger Lakes, Atlantic City, Natchitoches, Louisiana, Florida's Space Coast, Mexico City, and numerous others.

Recognized for performance driven marketing, Murdaugh is a frequent presenter and lecturer for numerous tourism conferences, seminars and workshops worldwide. He was a principal contributor of the Performance Team that developed the convention/tourism industry's Marketing Performance Standards and return-on-investment (ROI) criteria for the Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI).

His new book, “Destination Marketing INSIGHTS” is scheduled for publication in the spring, 2012. Murdaugh also authored the Destination Marketing section for the recent industry textbook, “Fundamentals of Destination Management and Marketing”. His “Performance Self-Assessment Manual for Destination Marketing Organizations”  has been employed by DMOs globally and considered a major industry resource, and his EMarketing newsletter for global tourism executives is available on the web at WWW.MMTourismMarketing.com.
